Information and material on this website
Our aim with My Dr Bill is to give the public information about the likely out of pocket costs of private hospital procedures and information which may help individuals to reduce these costs.
We do not verify or warrant the information we provide, including for accuracy, completeness, reliability or suitability for any purpose. Where clinical issues are discussed we are intending to provide information to patients and their carers which can form the basis of a discussion with their medical advisers. Any medical information we provide is generic and does not take into account the circumstances, physical wellbeing, mental status or medical requirements of a particular person which are relevant to the correct diagnosis and treatment of any problem, condition, disease, injury, ailment or disorder. Thus our medical information should not be seen as definitive, diagnostic or prescriptive, but should be confirmed with your GP or treating specialist. The My Dr Bill website does not give, or purport to give, any medical advice. Do not disregard medical advice or delay seeking it because of any information on My Dr Bill.
Statistical information is provided when we are satisfied that we have enough data to be statistically valid. It is inevitable that, given the variety of clinical scenarios we are attempting to report on, our data is approximate, not exactly accurate.
We do not generally ask individual contributors to personally warrant their information, but we do seek to moderate the data presented to try to avoid inaccuracies.
We have used the information collected and made available in the Surgical Variance Reports covering out of pocket charges for a limited range of hospital procedures (Reports). The Report data was published by Medibank in collaboration with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2017.
The out of pocket costs presented on My Dr Bill are extracted from the broader data set in the Reports. Medibank and RACS have not participated in the analysis of the information on this website or approved the results.
